Creation and Use of API Keys

API Keys are unique codes that allow authentication and interaction with external service APIs. This page provides a comprehensive guide on how to create, use, and manage API Keys securely and efficiently.

Considerations on the API Key for Nicky Users

An API Key is a tool that allows Nicky to access your account with a Wallet Service Provider, or WSP. A WSP can be an exchange, a bank, or any other platform where you have an account and can perform cryptocurrency transactions.

The API Key is generated directly within your WSP’s interface, and each WSP has its own process for creating this key. To make it easier, we’ve created specific tutorials for the main platforms used by our users:

You can click on any of the links above to go directly to the step-by-step guide for creating an API Key for the platform you use. This document is focused on guiding you, the Nicky user, through the process of creating your API Keys easily and securely, allowing Nicky to connect to your WSP reliably.

Generating API Keys: Step-by-Step Guide

To begin the process, determine which WSP you will use to create your API Key. The steps generally follow a similar pattern across platforms:

1. Access Your Provider’s Platform
  • Log in to your WSP account (e.g., Kraken, Coinbase, Foxbit).
  • Navigate to the API Key management or security settings section within your account settings.
2. Create a New API Key
  • Select the option to generate a new API Key.
  • Provide a descriptive name for your API Key to make it easy to recognize later.
  • Set the necessary permissions and restrictions based on your needs (e.g., read-onlytrading accesswithdrawal rights).

At this stage, the platform will prompt you to configure various security settings related to the API Key. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully to complete the setup.

3. Save and Secure Your API Key

Once the API Key is generated, it will typically consist of two parts:

  • API Key – Used to authenticate requests
  • Secret Key – A unique, encrypted identifier required for secure API interactions

Important: Many platforms will display the Secret Key only once. If you fail to save it, you may need to generate a new key.

  • Copy the keys immediately and store them in a secure location.
  • Use a password manager or other encrypted storage method to prevent unauthorized access.

By keeping your API Key stored securely, you ensure that your account remains protected, preventing unauthorized access while allowing Nicky to interact with your WSP safely and efficiently.

Following these steps will enable you to set up your API Key properly, ensuring a seamless connection between Nicky and your chosen Wallet Service Provider.
